A Funny Glass Mug for the Friend You Never Know What to Buy

You know their coffee order. You know which drink they make when everyone comes over. Somehow, when their birthday comes around, you still have no idea what to get them.

A funny glass mug is worth considering if that friend already has an opinion about every cup in your kitchen. Especially the friend who spots something odd on a shelf and immediately picks it up.

Start with the friend, then choose the mug

Think about the last time you had a drink at their place. Did they bring out matching glasses, or did everyone get a different cup with a story behind it?

This is a gift for the second kind of kitchen. Someone who collects unusual drinkware, enjoys a playful table setting, or sends you links with “I need this” is easier to buy for than they might think.

For a birthday, choose around their own habits. For a housewarming, picture where the cup would go in their new home. A friend who keeps a few favorite glasses beside the drinks shelf may appreciate one more. Someone trying to clear every surface may prefer something consumable.

If you are buying for a coworker, consider whether you know their taste well enough. A cup you would happily give your closest friend is not automatically the right choice for a team gift exchange.

What the hollow handle actually does

Our novelty glass mug is handmade from clear borosilicate glass. The curved handle is hollow, with a channel you can sip through. That function is easy to miss in a still photo, so look at the handle opening as well as the overall shape.

If you are giving it to someone who has never seen it before, show them how the channel works with a cool drink. A short demonstration makes more sense than a long explanation on the gift card.

The transparent glass also lets you see the drink inside. Try iced tea with a slice of lemon, a colorful juice, or their usual iced coffee. There is no need to buy ingredients for a drink they would never normally make.

Mini or Original? Look at the measurements

“Mini” can sound smaller than it is. Our Mini holds about 12 fl oz, so it still has room for a regular drink. The Original holds more than twice as much.

• Mini: 12 fl oz (350 ml), 4.9 inches (12.5 cm) tall.
• Original: 27 fl oz (800 ml), 7.5 inches (19 cm) tall.

Choose the Mini if your friend tends to make smaller drinks or has limited cupboard space. Choose the Original if they like a tall iced drink with room for ice and a mixer. You do not need to fill it to the rim; leave enough space to lift and carry it comfortably.

The handle contours also differ between the two versions. Check the side-by-side photos before choosing, rather than assuming the Mini is an exact scaled-down copy.

One useful check: measure a mug they already own. Comparing its height with the measurements above is more reliable than guessing from a close-up photo.

Add something they already enjoy

A glass mug gift does not need a whole hamper around it. One small addition can make it feel chosen for a particular person.

For the iced-coffee friend, add a bag of their usual coffee. For someone who always makes drinks when you visit, bring a favorite mixer separately. For a friend who drinks tea all evening, tuck a few individually wrapped tea bags alongside the mug.

Keep the note specific, too. “For the iced coffee you take three hours to finish” says more than a printed birthday message. Use a detail from your own friendship; it does not have to be clever.

Leave the glass in its protective packaging when wrapping it, and keep any bottles separate so they cannot knock against it.

Remember the cleaning brush

Every mug comes with a cleaning brush for the hollow handle. Keep it with the gift so the recipient knows what it is for.

We recommend hand washing with warm water and mild dish soap. Use the brush gently inside the hollow section, rinse thoroughly, and let water drain from the handle before storing the mug. Cleaning soon after use is especially helpful with milky or sweet drinks.
